DAY 1: Pakse (-/-/D)

In the afternoon you will embark on the Mekong Islands vessel, a comfortable reconstructed Laotian cabincruiser. (Check-in is at 2:00 PM) Settle into your comfortable cabin for a five-day cruise. After a short citytour and stroll along the Mekong promenade enjoy your welcome dinner in the boat’s restaurant. Overnight aboard Mekong Islands.

DAY 2: Ban Saphai and Vat Phou (B/L/D)

During the breakfast departure upstream. First stop ashore the small village Ban Saphai. Here you will learn more about the local textile and weaving arts. After cruising downriver you will reach to Champasak. A short trip by minivan and you will visit the temple complex of Wat Phou, relics of the great Khmer empire from the 8th -13th Century. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is located at the foot of about 1,500 m high Kao mountain, with an almost mystical atmosphere to the most impressive archaeological survey objectives of Laos. Back on board, you will learn in demanding talks about land and people and nearly 5,000 km river. In the evenings your crew will serve you traditional delicacies for Dinner.

DAY 3: Khone Phapheng and 4000 Islands (B/L/D)

Today your cruise continues across the south of the country. Relax on the sundeck and enjoy the view while you slowly cruise in an almost surreal region into the area of the 4,000 islands. Here, where the Mekong finds its widest extent, has arisen over millennia of years a landscape that yields depending on the water only a few large and numerous small islands in the river, some large with a magnitude of a few square miles, others only a few square meters. Stop at Don Khong and trip further on southwards by longtailboat to Don Khone. After Lunch in a local Restaurant walk around the islands to French locomotive and French bridge. During a guided tour on the largest river island of Don Khone you will also visit the typically dreamy life in Southern Laos. Trip by longtailboat again to Ban Nagasang. Transfer by minivan to the Khone Falls. These are the largest water falls in Asia, before the Mekong River begins its journey to Cambodia. Dinner aboard Mekong Islands.

DAY 4: Ban Thomo and BBQ (B/L/D)

After breakfast aboard a small lecture about Hi Chi Minh Path in Champasak. Lunch will be served on board. In the afternoon a small trip to the Lao Loum Village named Ban Thomo. Back aboard Mekong Islands you are able to join a Lao Coffee presentation and/ or just enjoy the unique tranquility of the region on the way back to Pakse. Dinner/ Barbecue on the riverbank.

DAY 5: Pakse (B/L/-)

Enjoy the beautiful view and spot local fishermen onshore as you cruise upstream again. After Lunch you will return to Pakse where you will say goodbye to your Laotian crew. Check-out and disembark. End of service.

Every river cruise on the Mekong is a pioneer experience and is subject to constantly changing river conditions, including from floodwaters and shallows. Therefore please understand that we must reserve the right to alter the itinerary of this tour due to the logistical complexities involved. Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather, local authorities and river and/or road conditions. For safety reasons and according to navigating conditions, these programs may be amended without previous notice.
